Circumnavigating Columbus Social Media

This past Thursday, wilelymac, Arvind Venkataramani, and Allison from the FuseFactory talked in a conference call about the idea of doing an Ignite Columbus event. This would be a 5pm-11pm evening type event where we'd have people present ideas. Sounds like a pecha kucha, yes its like that. Why not just do a pecha kucha? Well someone already does that in town, and why not do more.

I'm currently looking into places to host it, and I've received some good leads thanks to Dan Harris and Allison.

More details as they come. You can listen to the call here:

and related links to Ignite are here:

The theme won't be robotics, it will be anything you want to present and talk about. It will be at Scott Preston's facility, and he will no doubt talk a bit about what he does in robotics.

How does Nov. 5 or 12 sound? Both days are a Wednesday.

Alison, bummer I can't attend Saturday. We're selling stuff at Baby Bonanza and then I'll be camping with my daughter.

google groups works well and it's free. I will present.

Scott will be having a bot building event this upcoming Saturday, starting at 11am. The address of his warehouse is 1481 Showcase Dr Columbus, OH 43212. Y'all are definitely invited to attend - that way you can check out the space and meet Scott if you haven't already. Also, we can discuss some of the things Arvind brought up in his most recent message. Scott's been using meetup.com for CRS promotion, so maybe he'll let us piggyback onto that?

I plan to be there, btw - I just purchased a Herbie the Mousebot kit for the occasion!

I don't know if Scott is a member of Majelly, but I'll invite him.

I agree with Arvind, Basecamp is very handy - FF uses it regularly - but it costs us $24.00 a month. I guess it would be up to all of us here to see if it would be worth it.

rock on!

re timing: would depend on how much time it will take to set up. if we keep this simple, and just have a series of talks followed by mingling afterward, we'll have to: (in no particular order, and feel free to add to this list)

- find enough people who want to present
- pick a date
- set up promotion and sign up (website?)
- figure out food (supplied, or retire to nearby bar?)
- bring in infrastructure (chairs, a/v)
- create guidelines for presentation (length, format, q&a)
- find a compere ('MC' in this here new world)

so i guess when we can hold this depends on how soon we can get all this done.

is there some cool web2.0 ish site/app where we can set up a base for organizing this? basecamp?

Great news. How about early November. We've got to start promoting and getting people who want to present. Are we going to do a game? Something with a robotic theme?
